In some countries I have visited, the people you meet can be a little shy about having their photograph taken, to the extent that you come back from a trip with very few portraits. Not so in Madagascar. On several occasions, women’s group meetings or english classes turned into impromptu portrait sessions, with crowds peeking through the door and blocking the only source of light, and squeals of laughter after everyone got a chance to view the image on the LCD screen. Lots of fun indeed…
These portraits were all taken with what little natural light was available, a 50mm f/1.4 and high-ISO – often 1000 or more. The wooden walls of the buildings sucked up any light and made shooting a little difficult, but produced some nice atmospheric photos I hope. Many thanks to the wonderful women and children of Fort Dauphin.
